Topeka ZIP Destination Groups
The current USPS DMM L012 table groups Topeka destinations into three processing schemes. These are the strongest build-safe coverage rows because they come from a current postal source. They are not neighborhood borders, resident counts, or a statement that every listed address falls inside incorporated Topeka. Exact street delivery, post-office-box use, and unique-destination status must be checked at the address level.
| ZIP | Areas covered | Post Office grouping | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 66601, 66603, 66605-66607, 66609, 66611-66612, 66616, 66619, 66683 | Addresses assigned to these Topeka postal destinations | TOPEKA KS 66605 | Destination scheme, not city limits |
| 66604, 66608, 66617-66618, 66647, 66667 | Addresses assigned to these Topeka postal destinations | TOPEKA KS 66604 | Verify delivery, unique, or box use |
| 66610, 66614-66615, 66675 | Addresses assigned to these Topeka postal destinations | TOPEKA KS 66614 | Service geography can cross municipal lines |
This Topeka ZIP code directory therefore starts with groups rather than invented neighborhood assignments. Neighborhoods such as College Hill, Tennessee Town, North Topeka, Oakland, Hi-Crest, and NOTOMA are civic or historic areas. Their names do not establish a postal ZIP, parcel, ward, or polling district.
Check Topeka ZIP Addresses
The USPS ZIP Lookup is the first authority for an individual mailing address. Its three modes answer different questions. By Address resolves a complete location. By City and State returns postal city results. Cities by ZIP identifies the city and state associated with one code. The site requires JavaScript and may need cookies.
| USPS mode | Fields | Result |
|---|---|---|
| By Address | Company, street, unit, city, state, optional ZIP | ZIP result with a warning that it does not confirm a person there |
| By City and State | City and state | USPS-defined city and state list |
| Cities by ZIP | ZIP Code | Associated city and state listing |
Keep the directional prefix and unit. Topeka streets may use NE, NW, SE, or SW, and dropping that part can lead to the wrong candidate. USPS normalizes mail, but it does not certify who lives at the address.
Find Topeka Residents by ZIP
No inspected Topeka portal publishes a general list of occupants filtered by ZIP. The sound process moves from a postal area to a full address, then to the official record suited to the question. A ZIP-wide name search should keep that limit clear.
- Verify the current ZIP or complete street address with USPS.
- Normalize the address in the Topeka geocoder and preserve any ZIP+4 it returns.
- Check the physical parcel in county GIS, taking care to distinguish situs from mailing address.
- Use the appropriate name-based court, voter, deed, or directory route after the address is sound.
- For a full street chain, continue with the Topeka street directory workflow.
A ZIP code directory narrows geography, but it does not replace a resident index. Kansas VoterView searches a registrant with name and date of birth or finds a polling place from a residential address. It has no public ZIP filter. The city permit layer also lacks a ZIP field.
Use Topeka Postal Fields
The Topeka composite geocoder is the strongest local ZIP-capable endpoint. It accepts a complete address or separate address parts and returns candidate matches. Postal and PostalExt preserve the five-digit code and extension, while match and location controls help explain how the candidate was chosen.
| Field | Type | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| SingleLine | Text | Alternative | Full address in one string |
| Address | Text | Alternative | Street number and street name |
| Postal | Text | No | Five-digit ZIP code |
| PostalExt | Text | No | ZIP+4 extension |
| Max Locations | Number | No | Caps candidate results |
| Match Out of Range | Boolean | No | Controls out-of-range candidates |
The official endpoint captured below exposes these postal parameters. Open the Topeka geocoder source to inspect the current fields.
A geocoder candidate is a location match, not a legal parcel decision or proof of residence.
Why Topeka ARES Differs
The Shawnee County ARES property search does not provide a ZIP field. It searches Address, QuickRef, Owner Name, Parcel ID, or Subdivision. The county parcel layer also has no normalized ZIP field. Its physical-address and mailing-address strings can contain city, state, and ZIP text, but a text match is not the same as a postal query.
This split matters. A parcel's situs address means the physical site, while the owner's mail can go elsewhere. The inspected countywide sample shows a Harveyville physical address and a separate mailing line with ZIP+4. It is not a Topeka example. It demonstrates why Shawnee County results cannot all be labeled Topeka residents and why both full strings should be kept.
Note: Carry the parcel ID and full address unchanged when moving between USPS, the city geocoder, ARES, and county GIS.
Topeka ZIP Schemes Change
Postal groupings are live operating data. The July 2026 USPS Postal Bulletin recorded Topeka scheme additions and deletions. Rows involved 66429, 66542, 66601, 66619, 66620, 66621, 66622, 66624, 66647, and 66667. These changes concern mail processing. They do not mean that a street, parcel, or city resident appeared or vanished.
The official bulletin is pictured below with the source linked above.
The dated table is a reason to verify a current street through USPS before relying on an old ZIP list.
An older 2004 DMM table included more Topeka-labeled rows, among them 66620, 66622, 66624-66626, 66628-66629, 66634, 66636-66638, 66642, 66652-66653, 66692, and 66699. Some may have been unique, box, or historical scheme entries. The live USPS tool must confirm current use before any one is called a present delivery ZIP.
Verify Topeka Postal Associations
The USPS City State Product is the more exact authority for ZIP-to-city, county, and Post Office associations. USPS describes it as a comprehensive file with alternate Post Office names and monthly updates. It is distributed through Electronic Product Fulfillment rather than as a simple public table.
Alternate city names matter in resident research because a valid mailing line may use a preferred USPS name that differs from the local place a person expects. A county name in the product is also a postal association, not proof that a parcel falls inside Topeka. For one address, use the free ZIP Lookup modes first. The maintained product is most useful when many address records must be standardized consistently.
The USPS product description below shows why a maintained postal file outranks an undated ZIP list. The linked source explains its scope.
Use the City State Product for bulk or exact association work, then test the individual street in ZIP Lookup.
Topeka ZIP and City Limits
A Topeka mailing label can serve an address outside the incorporated city. Conversely, city, county, school, election, parcel-neighborhood, and postal lines answer different questions. Tennessee Town, Oakland, North Topeka, and College Hill cannot be assigned to one ZIP from their civic names alone. A ZIP search also cannot establish a ward or polling place.
- ZIP and ZIP+4
- The five-digit delivery area and a four-digit add-on that narrows the delivery segment.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP used for post-office boxes rather than ordinary street delivery.
- Unique ZIP
- A code assigned to a high-volume organization or destination.
- Carrier route
- A postal delivery path within a ZIP, not a municipal or neighborhood border.
The safe comparison is address by address: USPS result, city geocoder candidate, county parcel, and the dated source used. Preserve the physical and mailing lines when they differ.
Boundary check. A ZIP code directory describes mail service. Confirm Topeka city status, parcel ownership, and voting geography with the office responsible for each boundary.
Keep Topeka ZIP Evidence
A reusable ZIP record should capture enough detail for another person to repeat the search. Save the full street line, quadrant, unit, postal city, five-digit code, extension when present, parcel identifier, and search date. Note whether each item came from USPS, the Topeka geocoder, or Shawnee County.
Run the same address through both postal and local tools when the result will support later research. USPS establishes the delivery form. The Topeka geocoder supplies a city address candidate and postal fields. ARES or county GIS ties that normalized line to a parcel, but ARES has no general ZIP filter. If the systems disagree, preserve both returned forms and ask the relevant custodian which field it controls. Do not silently replace the physical address with the tax-mail address.
- Exact street number, name, and directional quadrant
- Apartment, suite, or other unit
- USPS city, state, ZIP, and ZIP+4
- Parcel ID plus physical and mailing addresses
- Source name and the date checked
That small audit trail prevents an old scheme row or countywide mail address from being mistaken for a current Topeka residence.
